If you’re into board games, I’m sure you’ve played Space Empires 4X. Now, the good news is that it has got an officially licensed digital adaptation called Space Imperia 4X. The turn-based sci-fi strategy game is now out on Android.
Space Empires 4X was designed by Jim Krohn and published by GMT Games in 2011. Now, the digital version is developed and published by Breich Games in collab with GMT Games. While the latter brings the exact same core values and gameplay for players, yet there’s one major streamlining difference.
Space Imperia 4X simplifies heavy manual board game tasks like setup, token handling, hidden movement calculations, and the complex bookkeeping phase. It auto-calculates mineral hauling, income, and ship maintenance.
Each round gives you three turns focused on movement, combat, and exploration. They’re followed by another turn where you can research technologies and build ships. Every map is different, too. And meanwhile, an enemy group could be a single Scout, six Dreadnaughts, three Mines, or even one Decoy.
Space Imperia 4X features up to 17 different types of combat and civilian ships. Getting them requires dedicated research and infrastructure. Once you’ve unlocked them, though, a fleet of Dreadnaughts can be powerful enough to bring a match to a decisive end.
The game offers 14 unique technologies. There’s Ship Size technology, Exploration technology, Tactics technology, and of course, more.
Space Imperia 4X also supports both local and online matches
You get more than 10 different scenario setups for two to four players. There are optional rules and different ways to play. Multiplayer includes live matches, long-term asynchronous games, and online co-op matches against AI opponents.
There’s a single-player mode as well, with an AI progression system. Apparently, the developer took inspiration from the digital version of Twilight Struggle when designing the multiplayer experience. You can grab the game from the Google Play Store for $12.99.
