While we’ve had Souls-like Star Wars games in Respawn’s Jedi series, a strategy one courtesy of Bit Reactor in Star Wars: Zero Company, and even a new entry in the arcade racer genre in Star Wars: Galactic Racer, it seems we might be getting something fresh at some point in the future.

This is something the license owner has hinted at recently when it comes to Star Wars games.

Not only that, but they also talked about being flexible when it comes to game pitches as well.

Lucasfilm Doesn’t Think You Have to Be a Top 5 Publisher to Make a Great Star Wars Game

In an interview, Vice President of Lucasfilm Games, Douglas Reilly, talked about accepting pitches from companies that want to make games based on the Star Wars license.

Reilly mentioned that their quality standards are high, and while they usually work with experienced teams to approve games, a company doesn’t need to be a “top five” publisher to make one.

Reilly said, “I think we’ve tried to be more flexible about like…who we’re willing to take pitches from and good ideas can come from a lot of different places. You don’t have to necessarily be a top five publisher to make a great Star Wars game. We have a high-quality bar, and we want to make sure there are excellent experiences, and that means typically you work with more experienced teams than, you know, new teams who have no track record of making great things.”

“We’re exploring all kinds of things that large and small with partners that I think are going to continue to surprise folks who are like, ‘Oh, they’re doing a thing with them. That might be interesting to see how that turns out,” the exec added.

Obviously, Reilly didn’t name which of these “large” and “small” partners he’s referring to, or what genre they’re exploring. But hey, at the very least, there are more Star Wars game announcements to look forward to.

Projects we know of that are in development with the IP are Respawn’s third Jedi game, a remake of the Knights of the Old Republic that seems to be stuck in video game limbo, and BioWare’s sequel to KOTOR, titled “Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, which is being led by industry vet, Casey Hudson (Mass Effect).

There are also Star Wars projects that never see the light of day, and one of these is Star Wars: Magellan, an action-RPG for which we managed to unearth gameplay footage.
