War is bad enough when you’re fighting for your own side. It’s considerably worse when an alien invasion turns up, freezes almost everyone in time and leaves you stuck reliving the same bloody conflict.

That’s the rather grim setup for Every Day We Fight, a tactical roguelite from Hooded Horse and Signal Space Lab, now available on PC for £24.99, after a period in Early Access and Game Preview.

Every Day We Fight is a PC-only release, with no Xbox console version currently available. But for strategy fans, there’s plenty here to get excited about – particularly if you enjoy the idea of turning a handful of ordinary civilians into battle-hardened resistance fighters.

A War That Never Ends

An alien force known as the Rifters has brought the world to a standstill, with humanity’s resources seemingly ripe for the taking. A small group of three fighters has somehow escaped the time freeze, but there’s a catch: whenever they die, the day starts all over again.

Rather than making each failure feel like a complete setback, the time loop is central to progression. Skills, experience, weapons and equipment acquired during one attempt carry into the next, gradually transforming your unlikely heroes into a much more capable fighting force.

Missions take you across different districts of a war-torn city, where you’ll be tasked with destroying alien harvesters, defusing bombs and eliminating occupying troops. There are also secondary objectives that could save other civilians, although taking those risks might cost you valuable progress.

Think Before You Pull The Trigger

Combat is turn-based, but there’s plenty happening beyond simply choosing a target and firing. Positioning, stealth and teamwork are essential, with fighters able to support one another, interrupt enemy movements and react to threats outside their normal turns.

You’ll also have direct control over aiming, with firing angles, obstacles and enemy movement all influencing your shots. Whether you prefer picking off targets with a sniper rifle, getting up close with a shotgun or letting loose with a submachine gun, preparation and accuracy matter.

Death Is Part Of The Plan

The Rifters aren’t going to make things easy, particularly when their heavily armed leaders enter the picture. These challenging boss encounters represent major obstacles, but defeating each leader pushes the time loop forward and brings the resistance closer to ending the invasion.

There’s also a wider mystery to uncover, including the backgrounds of your fighters and the truth behind the alien control of time. Every attempt offers another opportunity to learn, adapt and come back better equipped.

Every Day Is Another Chance To Fight

With its mixture of tactical combat, real-time exploration, stealth and roguelite progression, Every Day We Fight has an interesting answer to the familiar problem of failure. Here, getting wiped out isn’t necessarily the end of a run – it’s another step towards building a stronger resistance.

PC players can pick it up for £24.99 from the Xbox Store (just remember, no Xbox console play at this time), with plenty of alien trouble, difficult decisions and repeated battles waiting. You’ll find it on Steam too if you prefer.

The war might feel endless, but your chances of winning should get a little better every time around.
